  1. Sir, Plz announce the list of selected banks providing this facility..

    1. Hi Sree,

Check out the 28 banks where one can open Sukanya Samriddhi Account shared already.

But, banks are yet to start opening this account. It may take some time before they start providing forms regarding SSY account. One can open this account in post-office only so far.

    2. How Much we will get at the end of the 21 years maturity period(My daughters age was 5 years now). if i will deposite Minimum Rs 1000.00/Month. Total money i will deposite 1,56,000.00 That is when my daughter will be 26 years age. How much money i will receive.

      1. Hi Sarojkanta,

I would say don’t go for the calculation from now onward. As the interest rate is not fixed and will change every year all the available calculators will give you approximate return only. If you are convinced that this is a good scheme where you can invest, then just go for it. Any investment with the horizon of more than 15+ years can be considered as good only. Except insurance cum savings plan, e.g. lic policies.

  2. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana – can we open it in post office only?

    1. Hi Jai, You can open this scheme account in Banks also. But banks are yet to provide this service. May be in 1-2 weeks we can find at least SBI is providing account opening facility.

  3. Debasis Chakraborty

Banks are not interested to open SS A/c . In Nagpur BOB , UCO & SBI have asked
but they do not know about this . Where our PM is so serious
about our daughters but Banks are very casual. So I have to open the a/c at Post office only . Is it possible to transfer the a/c to one Post office to another in future ?

    1. Hi Debasis,

India is a big country with many complexities. It is not that much easy to implement a scheme in a large scale immediately. I am expecting major banks like SBI, ICICI, HDFC, PNB, UCO, Canara Bank, BOB etc are going to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account facility in next 1-2 weeks max. It needs a huge training program to educate the Banks staffs.

And regarding transfer of account from Post office to Bank, it may be possible in future, but right now there is no such provision for that. Its too early to expect everything from this SSY scheme right now.

  4. Hi sir,can i deposite any amt between 1000 to 1.5 lacs in a year or the amt should be fix,for e.g 1 month i will deposit 5000 n next month i will deposit 2000 or i have to deposit 5000 per month which i have deposited first month. Can u pls help me in my query it will be greatful.

    Thanks n Regards
    Devang Vora

    1. Hi Mr. Vora,

You can deposit any amount in any frequency in a year. The only thing to remember is min amount is Rs 1000 and max Rs 1.5 lakh in a year.

  5. Date of birth of my daughter is 19/1/2005.can I get the opportunity of opening an account ?

    1. Hi Maloy,

Yes, you are eligible to open SSY account. Till Dec 2015 if your kid’s age is 11 years or below, you can open this account. From next year the child age has to be below 10 years only.

  6. Hi,

I have opned this account for my daughter on 21st Feb’15. Can you please confirm till which date I can make contribution in this Account or till which FY I can make contribution.

    1. Congratulations Neeraj, 🙂

You can add 14 years form the date, that will be till 2029 you can deposit money for your girl child in the Sukanya Samriddhi Account opened.

  7. even if i open the account on june 2015 i will be applicable for 9.1% interest? or 9.1% is applicable for accounts open upto 31march 2015 only

    1. Hi Sundar,

As per latest rules, I think 9.1% of interest rate is for this FY 2014-15. It will be changed after that. Wait for that or keep a track of this website.

  8. Hi Sir,

My wife opened accounts for my 2 kids in post office of her native place. It seems we need to go physically to the Postoffice to deposit money, can’t do it online. When asked same postoffice staff said that since its a online enabled post office we can deposit from any other online enabled post office….

Can you please share details regarding mode of payments?

    1. Hi Sreekanth,

As per my knowledge there is no such mode of payment for Sukanya Samriddhi Account. But I think you can visit any post office with your SSY account passbook and deposit money. There is no online access for this scheme so far. But I believe when banks will also start opening Sukanya account, we can easily transfer money to SSY account.

  9. Thanks , i thought of waiting till SBI opens SSY. I was rushed to open to avail “new scheme opening benefits” ??? (as told by some people). This made me to open in postoffice. So standing in queue is inevitable which i last did decade ago!

    1. Hi Sreekant,

You have done a good job by opening the account as early as possible for your girl child. I firmly believe that this scheme will add more features in coming days as the response is huge. In future you can definitely transfer this account from post office to Bank and also I believe online access will also be provided. But till that time don’t forget to make a habit of regular investment in this account. 🙂

  10. My daughter DOB is 01/04/2005 can I open SSA? Please sir advise me?

    1. Hi Samir,

Yes, you can open the account. Till Dec 2015 max year would be considered is up to 11 years. After that it will be till 10 years of age.

I see a picture at Facebook someone post that 1st time invest 1000& age 0 to 21 every month just invest 100 after 21years I get 650000 yes six lac fifty thousand how its possible or give me right view

    1. Hi Himanshu,

I don’t know where you have seen that calculation. I think if you deposit Rs 1000 every month for 14 years and assuming interest rate will be 9.1% then you can reach that amount. Checkout the excel based calculator and try some maturity calculation.

  12. My daughter date of birth is 18/07/2004. is it possible to open a/c.

  13. Hi Satanu,

    Did you noticed this statement
” If account is not closed after maturity, balance will continue to earn interest as specified for the scheme from time to time.”

I believe its an obsolete information. If not does it mean we can operate the account for infinite period?

    1. Hi Sreekanth,

You are right. There is some confusion. Ideally the account should be closed at the age of 21 years form the date of opening or marriage date which ever is earlier. As this is a new scheme it is too early to talk about maturity rules. Let time pass, we will see many changes in this scheme.

  14. Hi Santunu,
at the time of maturity who all will be eligible to withdraw the amount.

    1. Hi Shekhar,

I think anyone can withdraw the account balance on Maturity.

  15. Dear Santanu,

I too had a question on account maturity (and I know you have mentioned that its early days but still thought of putting it out there)…

My daughter is currently 7 and chances are that she may get married before she is 28 (7+21). In this case my account closes before the 21 year period.

If I do not withdraw the money, does it continue to earn the same % of interest (whatever it maybe at that time) as the active accounts? Does such interest then become taxable?

Would be great to have some light shed on this. Thanks!

    1. Hi Amit,

As per my knowledge the aim of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is to make a corpus of girl child’s education and marriage. So as soon as the girl marry in future, the account will be closed immediately irrespective of any other rule. There is no point continuing this account further.

In other case it will continue till 21 years form the account opening date and earn interest on the accumulated money deposited till 14 years of a/c opening.

I hope your questions are answered correctly. 🙂 Let me know if you have further queries. I am trying to make this website a worthy resource for this Scheme by spreading awareness.

  16. Can domestically residing grand parents of a NRI grand child open a Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme account for the grand child that is living abroad?

    1. Hi Patel,

As per my knowledge, if the grand parents are the legal guardian of the kid then they might open Sukanya Account. But for NRI’s the provision are not clear so far. It is better to wait for few more time as the scheme will continue further.

  17. Like PPF, is it possible to deposit money into the SSYA before the 31st of March every year and still continue to get interest rate (as announced by the Government of India every year) for the complete year?

    1. Hi Nilesh,

I think this should be possible. But why you want to wait till the end of the year? Whenever you can try to deposit and save money. Don’t wait till the end of the year for the sake of tax calculation and all. That is the riskiest time that you may fall into a bad investment product. Try to build the habit of investment by savings small but monthly basis. 🙂

  18. Date of birth of my sister is march 2004.can I get the opportunity of opening an account sir ?

    1. Hi Balaji,

Are you the legal guardian of your sister? I don’t think you can open this account for your sister. Kindly read the notifications carefully who can open Sukanya Samriddhi Account.

  19. My daughter’s DOB is 17.08.2004.

Till which date including grace period was I eligible to open an account for her under SSY ? Pls. be specific with date…
