This website is flooded with comments & questions on How to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account in Bank like SBI Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, BOB etc.
Initially I have replied many such comments saying in few weeks we will be able to open Sukanya Account in almost all authorized banks. But the sad part is Banks are completely speechless on this topic.
Details of Sukanya Samriddhi Account in Bank
There is almost no update from any bank regarding when they will start providing facility to open Sukanya account, even country’s largest bank SBI also has no answer on that.
I have personally visited HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Andhra Bank in Hyderabad and found it very strange that few of them didn’t even heard about this scheme. In-fact I have mailed few more banks like Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and got some strange replies. I have attached the reply from PNB saying that this is a post-office related scheme.
Sukanya Samriddhi Account can be opened in Post-Offices only
When this scheme has launched initially, it has launched with the tag line “a small post office deposit scheme” . But later on Govt. has disclosed the list of 28 banks where one can open SSA account. In-fact to fast-track the progress of account opening Govt. has instructed banks to submit regular reports as well. You can read the news from Economic Times.
But as per current scenario there is no update from Banks. So one can say it is a post-office based scheme only till banks are going to join.

How to Open Sukanya Samriddhi Account in Bank
In-fact Govt. has simplified the account opening procedure for banks as well as post offices. You can download the new SSY account opqening form. Fill all the mandatory details and then submit to any bank with all necessary documents. They will give you a pass-book similar to savings bank account passbook.
If you want to wait and want to open SSA in bank only then again I have to say that wait for further updates on how to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account in bank. Keep visiting your nearest bank and ask for updates. Otherwise best way is to open the account in post office only, as it is good to start investing early rather waiting for something.
